How to Register a Foundation Cow or Bull

TREG_5.2014_CMP_49309oa4cAny animal that is registered with another breed association is eligible for registration with ASA, this is called a foundation animal.

Foundation registration is an in-house process. To start the registration process, please submit a copy of the primary Association’s registration certificate to the ASA office. If you do not have a copy of the certificate, you can pull a copy (or snapshot) off of the other breed’s on-line registry site.

You can either mail, email, or fax this information to the ASA office. You will need to provide your membership account number for billing, and you will need to request for ASA to register this animal.

Mailing address:

American Simmental Association

One Genetics Way

Bozeman, MT 59718

Once ASA receives the request, the processing team will create a job for your registration. Keep in mind that jobs are processed in the order in which they come into the office. Foundation registration have a turn-around time of 4 weeks.

If your request is a priority request, please mark priority on your cover letter or in the subject line of the email. Priority processing is an additional cost of $50, and you will have the ASA registration number within 24 hours (Same day turn-around is available for requests before 1 PM Mountain time).

Cost to register your foundation animal:

$17.00 for Cow

$25.00 for Bull

If your Foundation animal(s) are being used as an AI sire or a Donor Dam, further information will need to be provided to ASA from the primary breed association in order for the animal to be approved for AI or Donor use with ASA.

Please email, call the ASA office (406-587-4531), or check out the blog Have you Herd

Once the foundation animal is registered, an ASA certificate will be mailed out to you. You can look up other breed animals in our Animal Search by the ASA number that is assigned to them or by their other breed registration number.
